Box Leagues FAQ

How to join and play in the Box League

  1. Register for a Free Membership at ClubLocker.com.
  2. Sign up to play beginning next month
  3. You’ll receive an email announcing the new boxes at the beginning of each month

Who will I play?

  • You will play every other player in your “Box”. Players are responsible for scheduling and playing matches and recording the scores. Matches must be completed and scores reported BEFORE the 9pm on the last day of the calendar month.

When do I schedule matches?

  • Each player is responsible for scheduling Box League Matches at a mutually convenient time.
  • It is best to send an email to your box as soon as the league is posted.
  • If you are injured or travelling you are responsible for communicating with your boxmates. It is perfectly fine to copy Greg on emails like this.

How do I contact others in my group?

  • Use ClubLocker.com to send messages, email from the Contacts listing sent with every player’s contact info at the beginning of every month.
    • On ClubLocker.com when you are logged in and looking at your current box there is a link “Email this group” just to the upper right of the box above the dark blue table background.
    • On ClubLocker.com your opponent will have either an email icon and/or a telephone icon. Use these to initiate either an email or phone call.

How do I stop playing? Do I need to do anything to continue playing?

  • Use the Box League Signup/Withdraw form. This is the preferred method!!
  • If you play at least 1 match you will automatically be kept in the league for the following month
  • Caution: If you email Greg instead of using the web form you may be subject to punitive fines and harassment.

What’s the official ball of the box league?

  • In early 2019 we officially adopted the 1 dot Dunlop squash ball as our Box League ball. The ball has a very slightly bouncier feel and tends to stay up a little bit longer. This contributes to making longer rallies and players typically have more fun when playing.
  • If both players agree you may play with an alternative ball (as long as it is an official squash ball). If players cannot agree on which ball to use a single dot ball must be used.

Where can I see the current box league results?

  • See the link to the current box on the left side of this web page.

How do I enter scores? Why isn’t it working?

  • Use ClubLocker.com to enter scores
    • You MUST be logged in to ussquash.com/clublocker.com to enter scores
    • From the Home screen select “Enter Scores”
    • Select “Box League” <– most critical part of these directions!!
    • Enter the scores in the form
    • If you enter the score as a friendly you will not be able to enter a second match against that player without the first match being deleted. Only admins have the privs to do this. Email me the details and I can delete it.
  • Scores are entered at the ussquash.com website. Use the link on the left sidebar of this page to see the current results.
  • You MUST be logged in to enter scores. When on the ussquash.com page at the top you should see “My Account” on the right side in the yellow/gold bar near the top of the pages. Hover your mouse pointer over the work “My Account”. If it says “Logon” then you must Logon first.
  • Most of the problems with entering scores center around users not being logged in to ussquash.com. Many of our players are able to enter scores just fine… on Windows, Macs, iPhones and Blackberries. But you MUST be logged in.
  • A match in the Box League is best of 5 games. Once either player wins 3 games the match is over. It is assumed that players will continue to play for the balance of their court time but the remaining games no longer count.
  • If you can’t figure it out just email your results to Greg. Make sure that the games are clearly indicated with each game on a separate line. Be sure to include the date the match was played.
  • Scores MUST be entered before 9pm on the last day of the calendar month

What can I do to play better players?

  • Win your current box. This doesn’t mean you’ll automatically move up (though the chances are pretty darn good that you will!)
  • Play all your matches
  • Scout players in the box above you. Watch them play a match. If you think you can play at their level ask them to play. The whole point to all this is to play and have fun!

The same people keep beating me. What can I do?

  • Sometimes its hard to make it to the next level. There is no magic ointment to make your rails tighter or drops hit the nick. Look at your opponent’s record and see which players can beat them. Talk to them and ask for hints. Watch them play and learn from what they do.
  • Play better squash. Stick to the basics (rails, depth, patience).
  • Ask for feedback when you lose.
  • Schedule a lesson with Marilu
  • Watch videos of better players (video archive).
  • Come watch scheduled matches or league play at PCS or, during the season, at local Maine colleges (Bates, Bowdoin, Colby).
