Portland Community Squash party!

Squash continues to grow in the Portland area. Each month we welcome new players. Some are brand new to the sport, some are former college players and others are seasoned vets with years of experience. Our leagues show staggering numbers… The Box League averaged 75 players a month during the winter season. The Winter League is capped at 36 positions and had another very successful season.

There are lots of exciting things being discussed and planned for helping grow squash, expand the base of players and do more for the community. An active group has been working to find a way to bring an urban squash program to Portland. This effort would also include an expanded facility with enough space and courts to handle the urban squash program, youth programs and the growing needs of the existing adult squash community.

Portland Community Squash (PCS) is the result of these efforts. It was founded by Barrett Takesian, a recent Bowdoin graduate and YMCA squash volunteer. This ambitious project will have and need the support of many individuals and institutions including the YMCA, local schools and colleges and all squash players in southern Maine.

Please come meet the group, see the plans and discuss the vision! PCS is hosting a party at a potential facility to formally announce the organization and give people a chance to see the vision (and a potential space for courts!) and ask questions. There will be plenty of time to chat and celebrate squash, the Winter League, the Box Leagues and the wonderful city of Portland.

Best of all is a promise of plenty of snacks and beverages…
