2022-2023 Winter League

Team Acorn rallied to a 5-4 win over Team Hubbard to capture the Maine Squash Winter League Championship! The drama unfolded last night at Portland Community Squash and was decided in the 5th game of the final match at the #4 position with Alfonso holding off a comeback by John.

  • Playoffs were cancelled because of Covid-19 national shutdown the final week of regular season. Team Xenon had the best record with 7-2 for the season
  • 85% of league matches finished either 5-4 or 6-3. Plenty of exciting drama for the league!!

  • League played using 2 courts every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Flex scheduling was overused and caused 50% of matches to be played at other times during the week.
  • Each team played each other team twice… first time 1s played 1s, second time 1s played 2s and so on.
  • First season Greg Born as member of League committee
  • First season using the Flex Court (Converted racquetball court)
  • Online Court Reservations started 2/2/2010. First entry was 8AM, Court 3, Paul Farrell. Probably racquetball. Katie Sparrow’s 9am reservation was the first squash court booked
  • All five games were always played during a match. This was because of the recent transition from games to 9 (must be serving to win the point) to games to 11 (PAR or Point A Rally)
