Barrett reports in on the tournament in Massachusetts: Today, 3/30, seven players from the middle school team went down to Brooks School to compete in the NEMA tournament. Most of our players were in the C division. Cole won the C division, Josh won the C consolation, and Henry won the C plate. Positive attitudes all around! Members of the Bates College Squash teams will come to the Portland YMCA for an afternoon of exhibition, tips and pointers and casual play. All players interested in squash in southern Maine are encouraged to attend. The Bates squash teams are consistently ranked in the top 15 schools in the country. Rumor has it that Ahmed Abdel Khalek, former #4 nationally and All American, will be on hand to provide insight and tips on how to play and beat players that are REALLY good! This event is always fun and entertaining!
Team Blue Chip behind captain Chip Harlow finished the Winter League season undefeated and won the league championship. Big efforts by Christian Thomas and Jan Van Voorst plus the “last match of the night” pressure win from Ben Freeman to seal the victory. In the consolation round Joe Tacka’s All of the players and spectators involved are grateful to Pat Cosquer and Bates College for allowing us use of the Bates Squash Facility to hold our league championship. It was a fantastic event!! |
