The Portland YMCA Winter League championships and consolation matches will be played at Bates College tonight at 6:30pm. All are welcome to come enjoy the event and festivities.
Holly Parker will offer Women’s Squash Clinics at the Portland Y this Spring on alternating Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.. The clinics are an opportunity for us to play and learn together and grow the women’s squash community here in Maine. The first two clinics on April 1st and 15th will be free with the hopes that we will build interest and momentum. Subsequent clinics will be offered at $14/members and $34/non-members. Loaner equipment is available. This is an all-ages, all-level clinic. Please contact Holly at holly.parker74@yahoo.com with any questions. Spread the word and help us build women’s squash here in Maine! Big shout out to Marilu Fortson and Barrett Takesian for their efforts in making the first every middle school squash event a reality! Many happy and enthusiastic kids from Brunswick, Maine, Portland, Maine and Lawrence, Mass participated in a giant round robin friendly match at Bowdoin College this past weekend. See the video: Many of the people involved with squash programs at the Portland YMCA and with the efforts of Portland Community Squash appreciate the good press about urban squash programs that has been popping up recently. Next Monday, March 3rd, the Winter League playoffs begin. First round quarter final action will be:
Top seeded teams Blue Chip and Harvey’s Green Team have a bye and will play the winners of the quarter finals on Monday, March 10th. The top seed, Blue Chip, will play the winner of the 4th vs. 5th seed match at 6:00pm and the second seed, Harvey’s Green Team, will play the winner of the 3rd vs. 6th seed match at 7:30pm.
