Portland YMCA Box League is now in full swing with 18 new players joining for October! http://modules.ussquash.com/ssm/pages/boxleague/Boxleague.asp?BoxID=1185 What a treat this past weekend’s Bobcat Classic Squash Tournament was! The Pro Squash Tour, run by Joe McManus, combined with Pat Cosquer and Bates College hosted an amazing event. With over 70 participants from all over the east coast including St. Lawrence University, Bowdoin College, Bates College, Colby College and numerous none affiliated amateurs the talent was remarkable. The Portland YMCA was well represented with 9 players. CJ Smith (USA) Quarter Finals starting at 6:00 p.m.: More info here http://www.prosquashtour.net/2013/tournaments/BobcatClassic/draw.html Thursday, September 26th, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm http://ymcaofsouthernmaine.org As a part of U.S. Squash’s Women’s Squash Week, join us for an evening of instruction and play at the Y. The evening will begin with some large group instruction and then smaller groups will break out to do some light drilling. The second hour will feature game play. Come learn a great new game or improve your skills while meeting potential match partners. No experience necessary and equipment is available to borrow. For the third year the Pro Squash Tour will hold a tournament at Bates College in Lewiston. This year David Palmer will be joined by Thierry Lincou. Both are former World Number 1 players. Today the PST announced that Amr Khaled Khalifa of St. Lawrence University, #1 player in College Squash last year and the #4 player, Bates College sophomore Ahmed Abdel Khalek, will both be entered in the tournament playing as amateurs in the pro draw. Please take a moment to read the PST press release describing the tournament The Bobcat Classic also has a very popular amateur tournament with multiple divisions. The tournament starts in the late afternoon on Friday and runs through Saturday evening. It is a fantastic way to both play and watch squash. The entry fees for the amateur draw are only $30 and include free admission to the pro matches (as spectators…).
