By Greg, on March 13th, 2011 The Bates College Squash team will once again be coming to the Portland YMCA for an exhibition/clinic. Bates finished the season 15th in the national collegiate squash rankings in the Men’s and 11th in the Women’s programs!
The show will be run by Pat Cosquer, the Bates Men’s and Women’s Squash head coach. Pat is a Bates alumni and has worked extensively on promoting squash including his recent work at the successful StreetSquash program in Harlem, NY. He has also been involved in junior squash programs at other YMCAs.
Here are the event details:
Event: Bates College Squash team exhibition and clinic
Where: Portland YMCA squash courts
When: Saturday, March 19th from 11:30AM to 2PM
What: Members of the Bates College Squash team will be providing an informal exhibition and clinic at the Portland YMCA squash courts. There will be some skills demonstration, group instruction, exhibition matches among the Bates team members as well as the opportunity for our Portland YMCA squash players to play against the Bates team members. The focus will be on skills, strategies and techniques used in the modern game of softball squash. It is geared toward all levels of ability and is aimed at introducing squash to new players in southern Maine and raising the level of squash for existing players. Bring your sneakers and racquets and be ready to hop on a court! You can participate, ask questions or just observe!
Who: All YMCA members and guests are welcome. There is no charge.
By Greg, on March 1st, 2011 The March Box League has been posted. This month has fewer total participants but remains very active with 45 total players. As usual there have been some shuffling of the boxes because of new players and people dropping out. This month is no exception!

By Greg, on February 1st, 2011 The February Box League is now posted. Please note that beginning this month you will be dropped from the league if you do not complete at least two of your assigned matches. You can rejoin the following month. Email me if there are special circumstances before the end of the month.
I’ve changed the league settings so that a red asterisk will appear next to your name if you have completed your minimum number of matches to be automatically included in the next month’s league.
I also reset the “ladder” that shows to the left of the boxes.
You can view the league here: Portland February 2011 Box League
