Winter League Championships

Winter League 2017

Another exciting finish to the annual Winter League squash season. This year featured spirited and competitive play and deciding matches at virtually every roster position.

In the consolation round Mike Brennan’s Dragons won 3 of 4 five set matches over Matt O’Connor’s Suns including 2 where the Dragon player was down 0-2 in games. Overall the Dragons went 6-3 over the Suns. In perhaps the most thrilling match of the season Dragons Palmer Higgins took Suns sub Barrett Takesian to 5 games of exquisite squash that only 2 seasoned former college squash teammates could produce. Further drama came at 10 all in the 5th when a diving attempt to return a shot forced a 5 min injury timeout. Barrett held on and won 12-10 in the 5th.

In the Championship match  Doug Worthley’s Lions were too strong for Harvey Klugman’s Stags. The Lions won 6-3 behind strong showings by Tom Hambrick, Hawley Strait, Ken Farber and Liz Crane.

Congratulations to all players!
