Late, but more filling!!! Two of the finest players in college squash faced off for a much anticipated rematch. Last year Harvard’s Ali Farag lost a tight 5 game match to St. Lawrence’s Amr Khaled Khalifa in the semi-finals of the College Individual tournament. Khalifa went on to win the title. Farag was 2012’s individual champion. I was fortunate enough to have been there and videoed the match… Saturday a group of us went to Harvard to see Head Coach Mike Way and various others give a clinic on beginner/intermediate coaching. Nothing quite beats the advice, tips and demonstrations from people that do this for a living and have risen to the top of the profession. Former world #1 Thierry Lincou was on hand to do some demonstrations of what “perfect” form actually looks like when doing drills. We even ran into Paige Buchanan who is now playing for St. Lawrence’s women’s team. Some of us stayed and watched the much anticipated match between Harvard and St. Lawrence #1 players Ali Farag and Amr Kalifa. Pat Cosquer has informed me that the Bates College squash matches for Sunday, January 13th, 2014 have been postponed. Squash fans should head to Bowdoin for a full day of squash with a mini round robin between Bowdoin, Williams and Connecticut colleges. Use the following links to access the Maine Squash calendar. It shows all local college team matches, YMCA Winter Squash League matches, squash clinics and various YMCA squash programs in Maine. All Maine colleges (Bates, Bowdoin and Colby) in-state matches have been added to the calendar. |
